Hadith 284

أَخْبَرَنَا أَخْبَرَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيل، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالَ: كَانَ أَنَسٌ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَدِيثًا، قَالَ: "أَوْ كَمَا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ".
Muhammad said: Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), whenever he narrated a hadith from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he would say: «أو كما قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم» .
Brief Explanation

From all these narrations, the legitimacy of saying «أو كما قال رسول اللّٰه صلى اللّٰه عليه وسلم» or «قال نحوه أو شبه أو شكله» etc. after narrating a hadith is established, by which there remains no risk of attributing a false hadith to the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam). This also indicates the extreme caution exercised by the pious predecessors (salaf salihin) in the narration of hadith.
