It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that it was asked from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): What is meant by Maqam-e-Mahmood (the Praised Station)? He (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: “It is that day when Allah, the Exalted, will manifest Himself upon His Throne, and it will make a sound like the sound produced when a new saddle is sat upon, due to its tightness, even though the expanse of that Throne will be as much as between the heavens and the earth. On that day, you will be brought barefoot, naked, and uncircumcised, and the first to be clothed will be Ibrahim (peace be upon him). Allah, the Exalted, will say: ‘Clothe My Khalil (close friend),’ so two fine garments from Paradise will be brought for him. Then, after him, I will be clothed. Then I will stand at the right side of Allah (Glorious is His Majesty), and this is that station (Maqam-e-Mahmood) upon which the first and the last will envy me.”

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadiths 2833 to 2835)
The first part of this hadith and «يُجَاءُبِكُمْحُفَاةًعُرَاةً» have supporting evidences (as will be mentioned ahead at number 2837), from which the sitting of Allah Most High upon the Kursi (Throne) is established. It is also mentioned in the Noble Qur’an: «﴿وَسِعَكُرْسِيُّهُالسَّمَاوَاتِوَالْأَرْضَ﴾ [البقرة : 255]». Some scholars have interpreted “Kursi” as the “Arsh” (Throne), while others have taken it to mean the place of the Feet (of Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He). However, the hadith scholars (muhaddithin) and the pious predecessors (salaf salihin) have made it obligatory to have faith in these attributes of Allah Most High as they have been transmitted, without likening them (to creation) or asking how (bi-la tamthil wa la takyf), and have prohibited interpreting them figuratively. This is the correct creed; therefore, it is necessary to have faith in the Kursi and in Allah’s sitting upon it.
May Allah Most High grant everyone the ability to understand the reality of faith. Ameen.
