Hadith 2830

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If I take away the two beloved things (eyes) of someone and he remains patient and seeks reward, I will not be pleased with any reward for him except Paradise."

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2829)

The reward for patience and gratitude is Paradise. The person whose eyesight continues to diminish, and then he exercises patience—glad tidings are for them. They should hope for reward from Allah Ta’ala; surely, they will be granted Paradise. The devotee of the Sunnah, obedient and submissive to Allah and His Messenger, the Grand Mufti of the Kingdom, Samahat al-Shaykh Ibn Baz rahimahullah, when he lost his eyesight at the age of twenty, did not show any panic or distress. He acted with patience and gratitude and himself wrote: “First the light diminished, then it completely went away. So, all praise is due to Allah for that. I hope from Allah that He will surely admit me into Paradise.”

The humble and deficient writer had special love and affection from the respected Shaykh. The last time he departed for ‘Umrah, as per habit, this insignificant one requested: “Please remember me in your prayers.” He replied: “And you also remember me.” This was the first occasion that he made such a request of this insignificant one. By Allah’s will, just a few weeks later, he met Allah. It is by Allah Ta’ala’s grace and favor that in special moments, along with my parents, his remembrance does not leave my mind in supplication. Just two months ago, I saw Samahat al-Shaykh and Fadhilat al-Shaykh Muhammad Salih al-‘Uthaymin rahimahuma Allah in a dream, shaving each other’s hair. I was astonished at this strange dream. When I mentioned it to a scholar skilled in interpretation, he said: “Both stars are under the shade of Allah’s mercy, in peace and security.” Because Allah Ta’ala says: «﴿مُحَلِّقِينَ رُءُوسَكُمْ وَمُقَصِّرِينَ لَا تَخَافُونَ﴾ [الفتح : 27]» and the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: «رَحِمَ اللّٰهُ الْمُحَلِّقِيْنَ رَؤُوْسَهُمْ ..... إلخ.» This insignificant one is sinful and erring, but I supplicate and implore Allah Ta’ala: «أَنْ يَجْمَعَنَا اللّٰهُ وَإِيَّاهُمْ فِيْ دَارِ كَرَامَتِهِ مَعَ الصِّدِّيْقِيْنَ وَالشُّهَدَاءِ وَالصَّالِحِيْنَ تَحْتَ لِوَاءِ سَيِّدِ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ وَالْمُرْسَلِيْنِ Ameen.
