حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ، حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ هُوَ: ابْنُ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَجْلَانَ، عَنْ الْقَعْقَاعِ بْنِ حَكِيمٍ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: "أَكْمَلُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ إِيمَانًا أَحْسَنُهُمْ خُلُقًا".
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The most complete in faith among the believers are those who have the best character among them."
Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2826)
In this hadith, the correlation between faith (iman) and good character (husn al-akhlaq) is described, meaning that whoever is more perfect in character is also more perfect in faith; it is as if perfection in good character is necessary for the perfection of faith.
There is an addition in Abu Dawud and Tirmidhi that the best among you is the one who is best to his womenfolk, and I am the best among you to my family.
