أَخْبَرَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ، عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ هِلَالٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ، عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ، قَالَ: قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ: الرَّجُلُ يُحِبُّ الْقَوْمَ وَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَعْمَلَ مِثْلَ عَمَلِهِمْ ؟، قَالَ: "أَنْتَ يَا أَبَا ذَرٍّ مَعَ مَنْ أَحْبَبْتَ". قُلْتُ: فَإِنِّي أُحِبُّ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ ؟، قَالَ: "أَنْتَ مَعَ مَنْ أَحْبَبْتَ".
Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I asked, "O Messenger of Allah! A person loves a people but cannot do deeds like theirs?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Abu Dharr! You will be with those whom you love." I asked again: "I love Allah and His Messenger." He said: "You will be with those whom you love."
Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2821)
Love for Allah Almighty is the foundation and the essence; love for the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, the Companions radi Allahu anhum, the Followers (Tabi‘in), the Imams, the jurists (fuqaha), and the righteous people is subordinate to this divine love. If a person loves them, then he will be with them in the Hereafter and on the Day of Resurrection. But if someone is attached to the wicked, the devils, those who cause mischief and corruption, the disobedient and sinners, or the heroes of singing and music, and is heedless of religious matters, then on the Day of Resurrection his gathering will be with them.
May Allah Almighty grant us the company and love of the righteous people. Ameen.
