Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I went to the service of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and he was suffering from a severe fever. I placed my hand on him and said: O Messenger of Allah! You are suffering from a severe fever. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “I experience fever equal to that of two men among you.” Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I asked: Is this because your reward is also doubled? He said: “Yes (it is so), and whenever any Muslim suffers from any illness or any other hardship, his sins fall away just as leaves fall from a tree.”

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2805)
In this hadith, there is a teaching and glad tidings of comfort and reassurance for all believers: when even the Leader of the Prophets (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) is afflicted with hardship, then any believer can also face calamity and distress. In such circumstances, they should exercise patience, because the closer one is to Allah, the greater the trials and tribulations will be. The ranks of the righteous continue to be elevated, and their sins continue to be forgiven. Moreover, the sick person, even in the state of illness, continues to receive the reward for the good deeds he used to perform in the state of health.
