Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "I do not like that I should have the mountain of Uhud in gold for myself, and that when I die, even one or half a dinar of it remains with me, except that which I keep aside for a creditor."

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2801)
This hadith indicates the Prophet Muhammad’s (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) indifference towards wealth and his generosity and openhandedness.
Hoarding wealth is the practice of worldly people: « ﴿وَتُحِبُّونَالْمَالَحُبًّاجَمًّا﴾ [الفجر : 20]» How could the Pride of the Universe (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) ever approve of this? However, setting aside wealth for essential needs and saving for debts is not blameworthy, as is mentioned in the hadith. In the Noble Qur’an, the Divine command is: «﴿وَلَاتَبْسُطْهَاكُلَّالْبَسْطِفَتَقْعُدَمَلُومًامَحْسُورًا﴾ [الإسراء : 29]» That is, do not be so openhanded (i.e., do not spend so much) that you are left empty-handed, sitting in embarrassment and helplessness.
Rather, adopt a middle path; do not be excessive or negligent in spending wealth—this is the better way.
