حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ عَتَّابِ بْنِ حُنَيْنٍ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ: أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , قَالَ: "لَوْ حَبَسَ اللَّهُ الْقَطْرَ عَنْ أُمَّتِي عَشْرَ سِنِينَ، ثُمَّ أُنْزِلَ، لَأَصْبَحَتْ طَائِفَةٌ مِنْ أُمَّتِي بِهَا كَافِرِينَ يَقُولُونَ: هُوَ بِنَوْءِ مِجْدَحٍ" . يقَالَ: الْمِجْدَحُ كَوْكَبٌ . يُقَالُ لَهُ: الدَّبَرَانُ.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "If Allah Almighty were to withhold rain from my Ummah for ten years and then send down rain, a group from my Ummah would become disbelievers because of it, and they would say: 'This is because of the star Majdah.'"
It is said that Majdah is a star which is called Dabaran. (In the era of ignorance, the belief of the Arabs was that rain falls because of Majdah.)

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2796)
In this hadith, the reality and delicacy of faith (iman) are mentioned, as well as the fact that by uttering a seemingly minor statement, a person can become a believer (mumin) or a disbeliever (kafir). Saying that such-and-such constellation or such-and-such star is beneficial, or that it has good or bad effects, falls within disbelief (kufr). All are creations of Allah; in and of themselves, none possess the power or ability to influence anything. Everything manifests only by the command of Allah.
May Allah grant everyone the understanding of the reality of faith, and the ability to remain distant from disbelief (kufr), polytheism (shirk), and innovation (bid‘ah). Amin.
