Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2794)
In this hadith, the virtue of the Ummah of Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam is described: although they are the last (of the nations), on the Day of Resurrection they will be foremost, beloved, and honored by Allah.
The Jews and Christians claimed that they are Allah’s sons and His beloved ones, a claim which Allah Almighty has refuted in the Holy Qur’an, Surah al-Ma’idah (18), in a most scholarly and eloquent manner.
Translation: “The Jews and Christians say, ‘We are Allah’s sons and His beloved ones.’ Say, ‘Then why does Allah punish you for your sins? No, you are but human beings from among those He has created. He forgives whom He wills and punishes whom He wills. To Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, and to Him is the return.’”
