Hadith 2787

أَخْبَرَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنْ أَبِي قِلَابَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي أَسْمَاءَ، عَنْ ثَوْبَانَ: أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , قَالَ: "إِنَّمَا أَخَافُ عَلَى أُمَّتِي الْأَئِمَّةَ الْمُضِلِّينَ".
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, I fear for my Ummah from misguided leaders."

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2786)
Among the misguided leaders is that ruler who judges contrary to the Qur’an, follows rational laws, gives precedence to rational principles over the rules of taqlid (adherence to established legal precedent) in the resolution of cases, promotes innovations (bid‘at), spreads evil deeds, introduces new matters into the religion, interprets (the religion) according to the innovations of the innovators, honors the openly sinful, fails to enjoin good and forbid evil, and does not guide his subjects according to the Book (Qur’an) and the Sunnah.
«معاذ اللّٰه من ذٰلك» (Wahidi).
