Sayyiduna Mughirah bin Shu’bah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade burying girls alive, disobeying mothers, not fulfilling obligatory rights, unlawfully seizing others’ wealth, engaging in useless talk, asking too many questions, and wasting wealth.

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2785)
Some scholars have translated «مَنْعٍوَهَاتِ» as follows: Not fulfilling the obligatory rights upon oneself, such as zakat, not spending on the upbringing of one’s children and family, and it is forbidden to take something and not return it, i.e., to unjustly take someone else’s property without justification. The meaning of “qeel wa qal” is to ask people questions unnecessarily just to show off one’s knowledge, or to inquire about matters without need, etc. (Maulana Raaz rahimahullah).
In this hadith, six things have been prohibited. In Sahih Bukhari, it is stated: «إِنَّاللّٰهَحَرَّمَعَلَيْكُم» — that is, the aforementioned six things Allah Ta’ala has made forbidden for you:
(1) Burying a living girl — this is among the customs of Jahiliyyah (pre-Islamic ignorance) and is an extremely grave sin.
(2) Disobedience to the mother — the father is also included in this, and disobedience to parents is forbidden and among the major sins.
(3) Not fulfilling one’s obligation and forcibly usurping the right of another — this too is oppression and is among the forbidden and major sins.
(4) Useless talk — saying “so-and-so said this,” “this was said in such a way,” etc.; this too is inappropriate and against Islamic etiquette.
(5) Excessive questioning — unnecessary hypothetical matters and questions; this too is prohibited.
(6) Wasting wealth on unnecessary things — extravagance and wastefulness in food, drink, and clothing, spending money on evil deeds such as dancing and singing, watching films, kite flying, fireworks (which are very common in weddings nowadays), in short, extravagance in any matter is legally prohibited. Those who do so are committing a sin and are ungrateful for Allah’s blessings.
