Sayyiduna Abu Hind Dari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever assumes a position of showing off and seeking to be heard, Allah will treat him in the same way with showing off and seeking to be heard on the Day of Resurrection." (That is, on the Day of Resurrection, Allah will expose his deeds before the creation and will make his hypocrisy heard by the people.)

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2782)
For every righteous deed, it is necessary that it be done purely for Allah and in accordance with the Sunnah of Mustafa (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam). If any deed is performed for show or to be heard of, then Allah Ta’ala will deal with such a person in the same manner, meaning that in the world, such a person will attain ostentation and reputation; people will say: so-and-so is a worshipper, a mujahid, or a reciter of the Qur’an. And in the end, Allah Ta’ala will disgrace him before all creation, exposing his ostentation and casting him into Hell, because He has established the principle of “the recompense is of the same nature as the deed” (al-jazā’ min jins al-‘amal): as you do, so shall you be repaid. Similarly, «﴿وَمَكَرُوْاوَمَكَرَاللّٰهُوَاللّٰهُخَيْرُالْمَاكِرِيْنَ﴾ [آل عمران : 54]» applies.
