It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by a scabby goat kid which its owner had thrown out. He said: "Do you know how insignificant (despised or of little value) this is to its owner?" They replied: Yes. He said: "By Allah, the world is even more insignificant to Allah than this kid is to its owner."

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2771)
In this hadith, there is a teaching of indifference towards the world, as the world holds no significance in the sight of Allah. The world is merely a place of action (dar al-‘amal), while the Hereafter is the place of recompense (dar al-jaza’). The place of action is destined to end in a very short time, but the Hereafter is better and everlasting: «﴿وَإِنَّالدَّارَالْآخِرَةَلَهِيَالْحَيَوَانُلَوْكَانُوايَعْلَمُونَ﴾ [العنكبوت : 64]» “Indeed, the true life is the life of the Hereafter, if only they knew.”
