Sayyiduna Nu’man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with both of them) narrates: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “A man set out on a journey with his she-camel towards a deserted wilderness. He was taking a nap under the shade of a tree, and his mount was with him, upon which his provisions and food were loaded. When he woke up, he saw that his mount, the she-camel, had gone. He climbed a hill but saw nothing, then climbed a second hill but still saw nothing (i.e., neither the she-camel nor anything else), then climbed a third hill but still saw nothing. He turned in another direction and saw the she-camel. At that moment, he was not as happy as Allah Almighty is when His servant repents to Him.”

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2762)
In this hadith as well, there is encouragement towards repentance (tawbah), and repentance is beloved to Allah Ta’ala. The Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam clarified through an example: if a man is in a desolate wilderness, having nothing to eat or drink, and his mount, carrying all his provisions, disappears, he runs here and there but fails, and, despairing, sits down, certain of death—then suddenly his camel appears before him. How happy he would be in such a situation is easy to imagine. Allah Ta’ala is even more pleased with His servant at the time of repentance than this.
