حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُعْتَمِرٌ، عَنْ كَهْمَسِ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ، عَنْ أَبِي السَّلِيلِ، عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: "إِنِّي لَأَعْلَمُ آيَةً لَوْ أَخَذَ بِهَا النَّاسُ بِهَا لَكَفَتْهُمْ: فَإِذَا بَلَغْنَ أَجَلَهُنَّ فَأَمْسِكُوهُنَّ بِمَعْرُوفٍ أَوْ فَارِقُوهُنَّ بِمَعْرُوفٍ وَأَشْهِدُوا ذَوَيْ عَدْلٍ مِنْكُمْ وَأَقِيمُوا الشَّهَادَةَ لِلَّهِ ذَلِكُمْ يُوعَظُ بِهِ مَنْ كَانَ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الآخِرِ وَمَنْ يَتَّقِ اللَّهَ يَجْعَلْ لَهُ مَخْرَجًا سورة الطلاق آية 2".
Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I know of a verse, if people act upon it, it will be sufficient for them: «﴿وَمَنْ يَتَّقِ اللَّهَ يَجْعَلْ لَهُ مَخْرَجًا﴾» (At-Talaq: 2/65) — that is, whoever fears Allah, Allah will make a way out for him."
Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2759)
Taqwa (piety) is that a person has complete faith (iman) in Allah Ta’ala and His Messenger sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, does good deeds in obedience and submission to Allah and His Messenger, and refrains from evil deeds.
The command for taqwa has been given by Allah Ta’ala in many places in the Noble Qur’an: « ﴿يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللّٰهَ﴾ [الأحزاب : 70]» and the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would, from time to time, advise taqwa and say: «أُوْصِيْكُمْ بِتَقْوَى اللّٰهِ».
There are many benefits of taqwa.
Among them is that Allah Ta’ala delivers the muttaqi (pious person) from every worry, grief, and distress, and grants him abundance in sustenance, as is clear from the aforementioned verse.
In another verse in Surah at-Talaq, it is stated: «﴿وَمَنْ يَتَّقِ اللّٰهَ يَجْعَلْ لَهُ مِنْ أَمْرِهِ يُسْرًا﴾ [الطلاق : 4]» Whoever fears Allah, Allah Ta’ala, by His command, makes his affairs easy and correct.
May Allah Ta’ala make all of us pious and God-fearing. Ameen.
