Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O people! Allah is pure and accepts only that which is pure, and Allah has given the same command to the believers as He gave to the messengers. Allah Almighty said: O messengers! Eat of the good things and do righteous deeds; surely I am aware of what you do (: Al-Mu’minun 23:51), and He also said: O believers! Eat of the good things We have provided for you, and give thanks to Allah if it is Him you worship (: Al-Baqarah 2:172)." The narrator said: Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned a man "who undertakes a long journey, his hair disheveled and covered with dust, then he raises his hands towards the sky and says: O Lord, O Lord, while his food is unlawful, his clothing is unlawful, his drink is unlawful, and he is nourished with unlawful things, so how can his supplication be accepted?"

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2751) This hadith is among the fundamentals of faith (iman) and Islam. From this, it is understood that a person should obtain food, clothing, house, and dwelling all from lawful (halal) earnings; otherwise, his deeds will not be accepted. In this hadith, there are attributes of Allah Ta’ala: that He is free from every defect and evil, and He is above the Throne (‘arsh), and He knows both the righteous and the wicked, and it is to Him alone that hands are raised in supplication (du‘a), and He alone is the Giver, the Accepter of supplication.
