Hadith 2747

Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: It was asked: O Messenger of Allah! Which Islam is the best? (That is, who is the best among the Muslims?) He replied: "The one from whose tongue and hand other Muslims are safe."

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadiths 2744 to 2747)

From all these hadiths, the importance of the tongue becomes evident.
It is a reality that because of the tongue, a person becomes deserving of Paradise, and due to the tongue, he is cast into Hell; therefore, only good words should come from the tongue. In a hadith, it is stated that whoever believes in Allah Ta'ala and the Last Day should speak good or remain silent.
It is necessary to protect one’s tongue from lying, backbiting, tale-bearing, evil speech, abusive language, obscene and filthy songs, and conversations.
