Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2727)
The kunya (agnomen) of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was Abu al-Qasim, and his names were Muhammad and Ahmad.
In this hadith, there is a prohibition against adopting the kunya Abu al-Qasim, in which there are several wisdoms: one is that having the same name and kunya as the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam could lead to confusion in the divine messages, and there was a risk and possibility that a ruling not belonging to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam might be attributed to him.
Therefore, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam forbade this.
According to some scholars, this prohibition remains in effect until now; some scholars have said that since such a risk no longer exists, it is permissible to have both the name and kunya of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam together; and some have said that combining the kunya and the name is prohibited. The second opinion is the preferred one.
