Muhammad bin Wasi’ said: I came to Makkah and met my (religious) brother Salim bin ‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar there. He narrated to me from his father ‘Abdullah, who narrated from his grandfather, our master ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Whoever, while going to the marketplace, says: «لَاإِلٰهَإِلَّااللّٰهُوَحْدَهُ ........... وَهُوَعَلَىٰكُلِّشَيْءٍقَدِيْرٌ» There is no deity except Allah, He is alone, He has no partner, to Him belongs the dominion, and to Him belongs all praise, He gives life and He gives death, He is Ever-Living and does not die, all goodness is in His hand, and He is powerful over everything.”
He said: “Whoever says this, Allah will write for him a thousand good deeds, erase a thousand (that is, one million) bad deeds, and raise him a thousand degrees.”
The narrator said: I went to Khurasan and met Qutaybah bin Muslim, and I said, ‘I have brought a gift for you,’ and then I narrated this hadith to him. After that, he would mount his ride, go to the marketplace, stand there and recite this supplication, and then return (so that he could attain this great reward).

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2726)
If the chain of narration (isnad) of this hadith is considered authentic (sahih) or good (hasan), then this is a very great reward and virtue. This is because a person is occupied in the marketplace with buying and selling and other matters, and remembering Allah amidst the occupations of the marketplace is the work of very pious people.
Allah Ta’ala says: «﴿رِجَالٌلَاتُلْهِيهِمْتِجَارَةٌوَلَابَيْعٌعَنْذِكْرِاللّٰهِ﴾ [النور : 37]» “Men whom neither trade nor sale distracts from the remembrance of Allah.”
In this hadith, there is a virtue mentioned for Qutaybah ibn Muslim rahimahullah, that he would go to the marketplace and return solely to attain this reward and virtue.
May Allah Ta’ala grant us also such attachment and intimacy with the remembrance of Allah, Ameen.
