It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) set out on a journey and mounted his ride, he would say "Allahu Akbar" three times, then recite this supplication: "«سُبْحَانَالَّذِيْسَخَّرَلَنَا ........ إلى آخره» Glory is to Him Who has subjected this (ride) to us, though we could never have accomplished it (by ourselves), and surely to our Lord we shall return. O Allah! We ask You for goodness and piety in this journey of ours, and for deeds that please You. O Allah! Make this journey easy for us and fold up the distance of the earth for us. O Allah! You are the Companion in the journey and the Successor over the family. O Allah! Accompany us in our journey and take care of our families in our absence."

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Ahadith 2706 to 2708)
Protect us and our families in every circumstance and keep us in Your safeguarding and security.
It is recommended (mustahabb) to recite this supplication when setting out on a journey.
Some narrations contain slightly different wording, and other authentic supplications (ad‘iyah sahihah) have also been transmitted, the recitation of which is a source of goodness and blessing.
