Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would return from a journey, he would find me and Sayyiduna Hasan or Sayyiduna Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them both) standing to welcome him. The narrator said: I think it was Sayyiduna Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him). So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) seated me in front of him and Sayyiduna Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) behind him, until we entered Madinah, and we were riding the same animal on which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was riding.
Hadith Referenceسنن دارمي / من كتاب الاستئذان / 2700
Dabah refers to a riding animal, which includes camels, horses, and mules. There is no harm if three people ride on a camel or a horse, but if three people ride on a mule or a donkey, it would cause distress to the animal. And the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, who was the embodiment of mercy, it cannot even be imagined about him that he would subject any animal to suffering. Therefore, it appears that the mount was a camel. It is also possible that Sayyiduna Abdullah and Sayyiduna Hasan radi Allahu anhuma were children at the time, and their weight would not have been much.
From this hadith, one can also perceive the love, affection, compassion, and kindness of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam towards children and orphans.
Sayyiduna Abdullah radi Allahu anhu was the nephew of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, the son of Sayyiduna Ja'far ibn Abi Talib radi Allahu anhu, whose father Sayyiduna Ja'far radi Allahu anhu had been martyred, and the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam used to show him much love and affection.
The love of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam for Sayyiduna Hasan and Sayyiduna Husayn radi Allahu anhuma is well-known and famous.
