Hadith 2698

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, the angels do not enter a house in which there is a dog, or a picture, or a person in a state of major ritual impurity (junub)."

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2697)
Here, in this hadith, the angels of mercy are meant, who dislike those things. These angels come and go to Muslims and true believers out of eagerness and love, by their own will, but if Allah Ta’ala commands them, they will reach everywhere: «﴿لَا يَعْصُونَ اللّٰهَ مَا أَمَرَهُمْ وَيَفْعَلُونَ مَا يُؤْمَرُونَ﴾ [التحريم : 6]» Translation: “They do not disobey Allah in what He commands them, but do what they are commanded.”
Otherwise, it would necessarily follow that in any room where there is a dog or a picture, even the Angel of Death would not enter.
An atheist raised a similar objection, so a layperson replied that if you always keep a dog with you, then the angel who seizes the souls of the believers and the righteous will not come to seize your soul; rather, the angel will come who seizes the souls of dogs and swine.
