Hadith 2697

Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: We had a sheet on which there were pictures. I placed it in front of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was praying, and he stopped me, or it is said that he disliked it. Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: So I cut it and made cushions out of it.

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2696)

It is forbidden (haram) to make or hang pictures of a human, animal, or any other living being.
Nowadays, displaying pictures on clothes, garments, and walls has become common practice, which is completely contrary to Islamic injunctions. To hang up these pictures and show them honor and respect, to burn incense before them, to adorn them with garlands and flowers—these are all polytheistic (mushrik) customs.
Islamic law (Shari‘ah) has prohibited this. If there is a picture on a piece of cloth, it is permissible to cut it and make a pillow or something similar out of it, as is mentioned in the hadith.
