Sayyiduna Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I do not fear being asked, "What knowledge did you acquire?" Rather, I fear being asked, "How did you act upon it?"
Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadiths 267 to 269) This hadith is an allusion to «يوتي يوم القيامة ............ فماذا عملت» (that is, on the Day of Resurrection it will be asked how much was acted upon after acquiring knowledge). And in this, there is the virtue of the noble Companion, Sayyiduna Abu Darda radi Allahu anhu, that he fears lest on the Day of Resurrection this question is not asked by Allah: "What did you do (in practice)?"
