Salim bin Abi Al-Ja'd said: Some women from Homs (Syria) came to Umm al-Mu'mineen, Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), wishing to ask her something. Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Perhaps you are among those women who go to the public bath? They replied: Yes. Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Any woman who removes her clothes anywhere other than her husband's house has torn the veil between herself and Allah."

Imam Darimi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Ubaidullah informed us from Isra'il, who narrated from Mansur, who narrated from Salim, who narrated from Abu al-Malih, who narrated this hadith from Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her).

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2686)

In earlier times, there was no custom of having bathrooms within homes, and men and women would go outside to public bathhouses (hammams) to perform ritual baths (ghusl). There, massage would also be available, hot water was provided, and often men and women would gather together, leading to nudity, lewdness, and even acts of immorality and debauchery.

Even today, in some places in India and Pakistan, such bathhouses (hammams) are found.

Because there is intermingling of men and women and immodesty in these places, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) forbade going to such bathhouses.

However, it is permissible for a man to bathe there with complete covering of the private parts (satr), provided there is no intermingling, and even in front of other men, it is not permissible to uncover the private parts, let alone a man being naked in front of a woman or a woman in front of a man.

This is to tear apart the veil of Allah, meaning that the veil of modesty, piety, abstinence, and chastity is torn by doing so, because when a woman removes her clothes anywhere other than her home, it is certain that she will fall into immorality and debauchery.
