Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Allah has cursed those who tattoo and those who get tattooed, those who pluck hair, and those who create gaps between their teeth for the sake of beauty, those who alter Allah’s creation. This hadith reached a woman of the tribe of Banu Asad who was called Umm Ya’qub. She came (to Sayyiduna Abdullah, may Allah be pleased with him) and said: I have heard that you have said such and such? He said: What is wrong with me that I should not curse those whom the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has cursed, and this is also found in the Book of Allah. She said: I have read the entire Qur’an but did not find what you say in it. Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: If you had read the Qur’an carefully, you would have surely found it in it. Have you not read: “Whatever the Messenger gives you, take it, and whatever he forbids you, abstain from it...” (: Hashr: 7/59), She said: Yes, I have read this. Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has forbidden this. The woman said: I see that your wife does this. He said: Go and look. So she entered the house and looked carefully but did not see anything like that. Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: If my wife did such a violation, I would not have intercourse with her.

That is, if my wife were to do such an act from which the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) has prohibited, I would not keep her at all; rather, I would divorce her and send her away.
Subhan Allah! How passionate and devoted the noble Companions (radi Allahu anhum wa ardahum) were to the Sunnah.
From this hadith, it is understood that it is prohibited to get the body tattooed, to pluck the hair of the face and eyebrows, to create gaps between the teeth, and to alter the form and appearance created by Allah; and a curse has been pronounced upon the woman who has these things done.
It is also evident that just as following the Noble Qur’an is necessary, so too is acting upon the hadith of the Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) necessary.
It is not sufficient to have faith in and act upon only the Noble Qur’an.
And it is not correct to live and associate with one who does not follow the Qur’an and hadith.
