باب في ذُيُولِ النِّسَاءِ:Chapter on women’s trailing garments
Hadith 2680
أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ هُوَ: ابْنُ إِسْحَاق، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنْ صَفِيَّةَ بِنْتِ أَبِي عُبَيْدٍ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَتْ: سُئِلَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ ذَيْلِ الْمَرْأَةِ، فَقَالَ: "شِبْرًا"، فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، إِذَنْ تَبْدُوَ أَقْدَامُهُنَّ ؟، قَالَ: "فَذِرَاعًا لَا يَزِدْنَ عَلَيْهِ" . قَالَ عَبْد اللَّهِ: النَّاسُ يَقُولُونَ: عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ يَسَارٍ.
Lady Umm Salamah, may Allah be pleased with her, the wife of the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was asked about the hems of women (i.e., how much should they hang down)? He said: "One span (longer)." Lady Umm Salamah, may Allah be pleased with her, said: O Messenger of Allah! Then their feet will become exposed while walking? He said: "Then let it hang down a forearm's length, no more than that."
Imam Darimi, may Allah have mercy on him, said: It is said that Nafi‘ narrated from Sulayman bin Yasar.
