Sayyiduna Rafi‘ bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “The earnings of the cupper are evil (i.e., taking wages for cupping is bad), and the earnings of a prostitute are impure, and taking the price of a dog is bad.”
Hadith Takhrij
Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2656)
From this hadith, it is understood that the wage for cupping (hijama), the earnings of a fornicating woman, and the price of a dog are all considered khabeeth (impure), meaning they are unlawful (haram), as has already been mentioned in Hadith number (2604).
However, regarding taking a wage for cupping or hijama, there is some detail: here, the term khabeeth does not mean haram, but rather that it is merely disliked (makruh). If it were haram, then why would the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) himself give a wage for cupping, as will be mentioned ahead?
