Hadith 2653

Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade selling vacant land for two or three years.

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2652)

Its meaning is: A person sells barren land or the fruits of trees for two or three years, as is clarified in the narration of Sahih Muslim from Sayyiduna Jabir radi Allahu anhu. This is also called "Bay' Mu'awamah," which is unanimously invalid, because there is deception in it—perhaps the tree may not bear fruit, or the crop may not yield produce, or some calamity may occur.
