Hadith 2645

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، حَدَّثَنَا غُنْدَرٌ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ بْنِ وَائِلٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ"أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَقْطَعَهُ أَرْضًا". قَالَ: فَأَرْسَلَ مَعِي مُعَاوِيَةَ . قَالَ: أَعْطِهَا إِيَّاهُ . قَالَ يَحْيَى: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، حَدَّثَنَا غُنْدَرٌ، بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ.
Alqamah bin Wa'il narrated from his father, Sayyiduna Wa'il (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) granted him a piece of land as a fief, and sent Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) with him so that he could hand over the land to him.
Yahya said: Muhammad bin Bashar narrated this hadith to us from Ghundar.

From this hadith, it is also understood that the Imam (leader/ruler) may grant land (as a fief/estate) to whomever he deems appropriate, provided that it does not belong to anyone else.
