Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2641)
From this hadith, it is understood that seizing someone’s land by force is a grave and dreadful crime, and its punishment is that on the Day of Resurrection, a collar of the seven layers of the earth will be placed around his neck.
Some scholars have said that he will be sunk down to the seven layers, and some have said that he will be ordered to carry the soil of the seven earths, on that day when, due to the intensity and heat of the sun, people will already be drenched in sweat, so what will be the fate of the one upon whom this calamity befalls.
From this hadith, the scholars have deduced that the earth, like the heavens, consists of seven layers, as is also mentioned in the Noble Qur’an: «﴿اللّٰهُالَّذِيخَلَقَسَبْعَسَمَاوَاتٍوَمِنَالْأَرْضِمِثْلَهُنَّ .....﴾ [الطلاق : 12]» meaning, “Allah, the Exalted, created seven heavens and likewise created seven earths.”
Those who deny the seven earths, or say that by this is meant the seven climes or seven continents, are mistaken, and they are making conjectures contrary to the Qur’an and Hadith.
