Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "On the Day of Resurrection, Allah Almighty will neither speak to three types of people, nor look at them, nor purify them, and for them is a painful punishment." I asked: O Messenger of Allah! Who are these disappointed and ruined people? He said: "The one who lets his lower garment hang below his ankles, the one who reminds others of his favors, and the one who sells his goods by swearing a false oath."
Letting the lower garment hang below the ankles—whether it is an izar, pajama, pants, or any kind of clothing—is a sign of arrogance and is prohibited. Similarly, doing a favor for someone, giving wealth and then reminding them of it, is also a sign of pride, is sinful, and is forbidden—that one should not remind someone of a favor after giving them something. Likewise, selling goods by swearing a false oath, deceiving, and showing disrespect to the Essence of Allah, are all grave matters. For such people, Allah Ta’ala has prescribed four punishments: He will not look at them on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He speak to them, nor will He forgive their sins, rather, for such people there will be a painful punishment «(أعاذ اللّٰه وإياكم منه)».
These are severe punishments; therefore, one must strictly avoid letting the lower garment hang below the ankles (isbāl al-izār), reminding others of favors, and selling goods by swearing false oaths.
May Allah Ta’ala grant everyone the ability to do so, Ameen.
