Hadith 2637

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، عَنْ خَالِدٍ الْحَذَّاءِ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الشِّخِّيرِ، عَنْ أَبِي مُسْلِمٍ، عَنِ الْجَارُودِ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: "ضَالَّةُ الْمُسْلِمِ حَرَقُ النَّارِ".
Jarud said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Taking a lost item belonging to a Muslim is (like) the burning of fire."
Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2636)
That is, if someone even takes a lost item belonging to a Muslim, it is akin to taking the fire of Hell.
