Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) wife sent a bowl in which there was tharid, while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was in the house of another wife. The lady of that house struck the bowl with her hand and it broke. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) joined it together and began putting the tharid back into it. He (peace and blessings be upon him) kept saying, “Eat, your mother has become jealous.” Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) waited until a sound bowl was brought, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave that bowl to the wife whose bowl had been broken.
Imam Darimi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: This is also our opinion (i.e., if someone breaks another’s bowl, he should return a sound bowl in its place).
