Hadith 259

أَخْبَرَنَا أَخْبَرَنَا مَخْلَدُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ حَجَّاجِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ لَيْثِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ صَالِحٍ، عَنْ أَبِي الزَّاهِرِيَّةِ، يَرْفَعُ الْحَدِيثَ، أَنَّ اللَّهَ قَالَ: "أَبُثُّ الْعِلْمَ فِي آخِرِ الزَّمَانِ حَتَّى يَعْلَمَهُ الرَّجُلُ وَالْمَرْأَةُ، وَالْعَبْدُ وَالْحُرُّ، وَالصَّغِيرُ وَالْكَبِيرُ، فَإِذَا فَعَلْتُ ذَلِكَ بِهِمْ، أَخَذْتُهُمْ بِحَقِّي عَلَيْهِمْ".
Abu Zahriyya (Hudir bin Karib) narrated marfu‘: Allah Almighty said: "I will spread knowledge in the last era until men, women, slaves and free, young and old, all will acquire knowledge. Then when I have done so, I will seize them in exchange for My right."
Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 258)
As it is stated in the noble verse: «﴿وَمَا كُنَّا مُعَذِّبِينَ حَتَّى نَبْعَثَ رَسُولًا﴾ [الإسراء: 15]» That is, Allah Ta‘ala’s seizure and His punishment only come after the proof has been established, which He completes by sending a messenger.
