Hadith 2574

Isma'il bin Ubaid bin Rifa'ah narrated from his father, who narrated from his grandfather (Rifa'ah), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went towards Baqi', and said: "O assembly of traders!" When they all turned their attention towards him, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Traders will be raised on the Day of Resurrection as wicked ones, except for the one who fears Allah, practices goodness, and speaks the truth."

Imam Darimi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Abu Nu'aym used to say: 'Ubaidullah bin Rifa'ah, although it is Isma'il bin Ubaid bin Rifa'ah.

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2573)

In this hadith, there is a severe warning for those traders who, by every lawful and unlawful means, by speaking lies and truths, seek to increase their wealth.
Their resurrection will be with the openly sinful, the wicked, and the sinners, whereas those who conduct their trade with piety (taqwa) and abstinence, honesty and truthfulness, will be among the good people on the Day of Judgment.
Here, the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam has stated three extremely golden fundamental principles of trade, and they are: piety (taqwa), truthfulness, and trustworthiness. Whoever adopts these principles, others will have confidence, trust, and assurance in his trade, and blessings will descend upon him day and night in abundance.
In Bhopal, there was an elder who would be seen carrying a large sack of peanuts, leaving the market and calling out: “Cool peanuts—neither burn the hand nor the mouth; occasionally, a bad one may also come out.”
Believe me, because of his truthful words, people would buy plenty of peanuts from him, and his sack would be emptied very quickly.
