Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2570) Riba is called "interest" in the Urdu language, that is, taking more than the principal amount, which is well-known and recognized, and in «آكِلَالرِّبَا» both the one who takes and the one who gives interest are included. Here, by «آكِلَالرِّبَا» is meant the one who consumes interest, and by «مُؤْكِلَهُ» is meant the one who gives interest. From this hadith, the prohibition of both taking and giving interest is established, upon which there is consensus among all scholars, and it is forbidden by explicit Qur’anic text, the mention of which has already been made in the explanation of the previous hadith. This is such a curse in which many people throughout the world are entangled and afflicted. Every Muslim should strive and pray to be saved and freed from this curse. May Allah Ta’ala protect us from it, Ameen.
