حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ الْفَزَارِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَيَّاشٍ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ مُوسَى، عَنْ أَبِي سَلامٍ، عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ الْبَاهِلِيِّ، عَنْ عُبَادَةَ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ: أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَقُولُ: "أَدُّوا الْخِيَاطَ وَالْمَخِيطَ، وَإِيَّاكُمْ وَالْغُلُولَ فَإِنَّهُ عَارٌ عَلَى أَهْلِهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ".
It is narrated from Sayyiduna ‘Ubada (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Return even the needle and thread, and avoid betrayal, for betrayal will be a disgrace for the betrayers on the Day of Resurrection.”
Brief Explanation

It is established from this hadith that committing treachery (khiyanah) with war booty (mal-e-ghanīmah) is a very grave sin.
Whoever receives war booty should gather every small and large item, even if it is just a thread or a needle, and must not commit any treachery whatsoever.
