Hadith 2521

Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I confronted a disbelieving man and killed him, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) granted me his belongings.

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadiths 2519 to 2521)

By the belongings of the slain is meant his clothes, weapons, mount, etc.

The Imam has the authority, in order to encourage during battle, to set such a reward as the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) stated: whoever finishes off any disbeliever, his belongings will also go to him, and this is apart from the spoils of war (mal-e-ghanīmah).

Some jurists have said: this ruling is permanent.

Imam Abu Hanifah (rahimahullah) said: this ruling is not permanent.

(And Allah knows best).
