Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2495) In times of war, many matters arise which require much deliberation from those in leadership. Some commentators have said: The reason why the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam had this tree burned was to clear the field for battle, which was necessary, so that the enemy would not have the opportunity to hide and launch attacks on the Muslims from ambush. Look at what the so-called civilized world of today does during times of war. Consider the actions entire nations committed during the World Wars (Nagasaki and Hiroshima are vivid examples of their barbarity), the mere thought of which sends a shiver through the body.
