Hadith 2455

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever neither participates in jihad, nor equips a warrior for jihad, nor looks after the family of a warrior with trustworthiness in his absence, Allah Almighty will afflict him with calamity and distress before the Day of Resurrection."

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadiths 2453 to 2455)

From this hadith, it is understood that if someone is unable to participate in jihad himself, then he should at least assist the mujahideen. If even this is not possible, then when the mujahideen set out for jihad, he should take care of their families and households with trustworthiness, faith, and fear of Allah. To be deprived of all three of these matters is a great misfortune.
