Utbah bin Abd al-Sulami said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Those who are killed are of three types: (1) One is the believer who fought in the way of Allah with his life and wealth, encountered the enemy, fought, and was killed." Regarding such a slain person, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "He is a tried martyr who will be in Allah's tent under the Throne, and the Prophets will be above him in the rank of Prophethood." (2) "The second is the believer whose good and bad deeds are mixed, he fought in the way of Allah with his life and wealth, when he encountered the enemy, he fought until he was killed." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said about such a slain person: "He is like a sucked thing, which has wiped away his sins and slips, because the sword wipes away sins. Such a slain person will be admitted into Paradise through whichever gate he wishes." (3) "The third slain person is the hypocrite who fought with his life and wealth, met the enemy, fought fiercely until he was killed, but he will go to Hell and the sword will not be able to wipe away the stain of hypocrisy."
Imam Darimi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: When a cloth is washed and wrung out, it is called 'mumsas'. Therefore, the meaning of 'mumsasa' is: a washed thing.
