It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Rayhanah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he was with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in a battle when he heard him saying: "The Hellfire is forbidden for the eye that stays awake in the way of Allah, and the Hellfire is forbidden for the eye that weeps out of the fear of Allah Almighty (i.e., becomes filled with tears)." Sayyiduna Abu Rayhanah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned a third eye as well, but I forgot it. Abu Shurayh said: I heard from the narrator who mentioned the third eye, and it is this: "Allah Almighty has made Hellfire forbidden for the eye that refrains from looking at what Allah has forbidden (i.e., does not look at indecencies and evil), or the eye that is blinded (i.e., lost) in the path of Allah, the Exalted."

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2436)
From this hadith, it is understood that the person who stays awake and keeps watch in the path of Allah will not enter Hell. Similarly, the one who weeps and implores out of fear of Allah will also not enter Hell, nor will the one who lowers his gaze from looking at forbidden things, and the person whose eye is lost in the way of Allah will also remain far from the fire of Hell. The statement that the fire of Hell is forbidden (haram) for this eye means that if the eye does not go to Hell, then the person himself will also not go to Hell, because it is not possible that such a person’s eye goes to Paradise while his whole body is thrown into Hell. And this is from the category of “the application of the part while intending the whole,” i.e., sometimes a part is mentioned but the whole is intended, and sometimes the whole is mentioned but a part is intended.
