Hadith 2435

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “A morning spent in the way of Allah or an evening spent in the way of Allah is better than whatever is in the world.”

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2434)

The meaning of this hadith is that if a person engages in jihad in the path of Allah, whether in the morning or evening, it is superior to all the blessings of the world. From this, the virtue of jihad fi sabilillah (striving in the path of Allah) is understood, for which there is no substitute in this world. It should be clear that merely going out for patrol in the morning or evening is not included in this; because by "fi sabilillah" is meant jihad, in which there is the expectation of sacrificing one's life and wealth for Allah.
