Hadith 2427

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Some of the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) were sitting and discussing that if we knew which deed is most beloved to Allah Almighty, we would act upon it. Then Allah Almighty revealed these verses: «﴿سَبَّحَ لِلَّهِ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ ......﴾» (As-Saff 1/61-3), meaning: "Whatever is in the heavens and the earth glorifies Allah, and He is the Mighty, the Wise. O you who believe! Why do you say what you do not do?" Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him) said: This surah was recited to us from the beginning to the end. Abu Salamah said: Sayyiduna Ibn Salam (may Allah be pleased with him) recited it to us until he completed it.

Yahya said: Abu Salamah recited this surah to us, and Yahya recited it before us, and Awza'i also recited this surah to us, and Muhammad (ibn Kathir) recited this surah to us.

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2426)

Many benefits are derived from this hadith; the main point of evidence here is that Allah Ta'ala greatly loves those who, like a solid wall, strive in jihad in the path of Allah, meaning that the act of jihad fi sabilillah is highly beloved to Allah Ta'ala.

From the aforementioned hadith, there is encouragement to seek and pursue the best of deeds, and from Surah as-Saff it is understood that all the creatures in the universe that are on the earth glorify and praise the Lord, and in another verse it is stated: «﴿أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّ اللّٰهَ يُسَبِّحُ لَهُ مَنْ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَالطَّيْرُ صَافَّاتٍ كُلٌّ قَدْ عَلِمَ صَلَاتَهُ وَتَسْبِيحَهُ﴾ [النور : 41]».

At the end of this hadith, there is a type of hadith called musalsal, in which from Muhammad ibn Kathir up to the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), all the narrators recited Surah as-Saff from beginning to end.
