Hadith 2403

حَدَّثَنَا الْحَكَمُ بْنُ مُوسَى، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ حَمْزَةَ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ دَاوُدَ، حَدَّثَنِي الزُّهْرِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ حَزْمٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ: أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَتَبَ إِلَى أَهْلِ الْيَمَنِ، وَكَانَ فِي كِتَابِهِ: "وَفِي الْأَنْفِ إِذَا أُوعِبَ جَدْعُهُ الدِّيَةُ، وَفِي اللِّسَانِ الدِّيَةُ، وَفِي الشَّفَتَيْنِ الدِّيَةُ، وَفِي الْبَيْضَتَيْنِ الدِّيَةُ، وَفِي الذَّكَرِ الدِّيَةُ، وَفِي الصُّلْبِ الدِّيَةُ، وَفِي الْعَيْنَيْنِ الدِّيَةُ، وَفِي الرِّجْلِ الْوَاحِدَةِ نِصْفُ الدِّيَةِ، وَفِي الْمَأْمُومَةِ ثُلُثُ الدِّيَةِ، وَفِي الْجَائِفَةِ ثُلُثُ الدِّيَةِ، وَفِي الْمُنَقِّلَةِ خَمْسَ عَشَرَةَ مِنَ الْإِبِلِ".
Abu Bakr bin Amr bin Hazm narrated from his father, from his grandfather (Sayyiduna Amr bin Hazm, may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) wrote to the people of Yemen, in which it was written: "And for the nose, there is full blood money when it is cut off from the root, and for the tongue, lips, two testicles, and the private part, there is full blood money, and for the back and both eyes, there is also full blood money. For one foot, there is half blood money. For a wound to the brain and a wound to the abdomen, there is one-third blood money, and for a wound in which the bone is broken, there is blood money of fifteen camels."

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2402)

It is mentioned in Abu Dawood and others: And for each finger of the hands and feet, the blood money (diyah) is ten camels; for a tooth, the diyah is five camels; and for such wounds from which the bone becomes visible, the diyah is five camels; and a man shall be killed in retaliation for a woman; and those who are asleep shall pay a diyah of one thousand dinars.
