It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him): The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The major sins are these: associating partners with Allah, disobeying parents, unlawfully taking a life" — Shu’bah was uncertain — "or bearing false witness."

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2396) All of these are major sins (kabirah) for which dying without repentance results in entry into Hell. Here, this hadith is mentioned in relation to the prohibition of unlawful killing, making it clear that shedding the innocent blood of a Muslim is a very grave sin, which has been described as disbelief (kufr): «لَاتَرْجِعُوْابَعْدِيْكُفَّارًايَضْرِبُبَعْضُكُمْرِقَابَبِعْضٍ.» Alas, today’s Muslim neither feels shame in associating partners with Allah (shirk), nor refrains from disobeying parents, nor avoids false oaths, nor hesitates to shed the blood of his Muslim brother.
