Hadith 231

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When Allah intends good for someone, He grants him understanding of the religion."

Explanation & Benefits

Explanation:
1:
By understanding of the religion is meant knowledge of the Book and the Sunnah, knowledge of authentic, weak, and fabricated narrations in the corpus of hadith, knowledge of the rulings and issues of Islamic Shariah, and the ability to distinguish between lawful (halal) and unlawful (haram). From this perspective, if we consider, who could be a greater embodiment of this hadith than the noble Companions (radi Allahu anhum) and the esteemed hadith scholars (muhaddithin), who exerted tremendous effort to collect the scattered corpus of hadith and then arranged them in a juristic manner under various books and chapters? Alas, a thousand times alas for those who, ignoring these great services of the hadith scholars, consider such people as jurists (fuqaha) whose jurisprudence is more influenced by their own opinions than by the Book and the Sunnah, whereas the noble hadith scholars completely refrained from their own opinions.
