Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: The command was revealed in the Holy Qur'an that prohibition (of marriage) is established by ten instances of breastfeeding, then this command was abrogated by (the command of) five instances of breastfeeding. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away, and at that time the known number of five was being recited in the Qur'an.

Hadith Gradingتحقیق (حسین سلیم أسد الدارانی):إسناده صحيح وهو عند مالك في الرضاع، [مكتبه الشامله نمبر: 2299]
By “information” is meant that which is verified and established, i.e., when suckling (radā‘ah) is doubtful, the prohibition (of marriage) is not established. And the meaning of “recited in the Qur’an” is that the abrogation (naskh) of the number five occurred so late that the event of the passing of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam took place, and some people, still considering the number five as Qur’an, continued to recite it. After the passing of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, when they came to know of the abrogation, they retracted from it, and all agreed that it should no longer be recited.
There is a difference of opinion regarding how much milk must be suckled for the ruling of suckling (radā‘ah) to be established.
Some have said that this ruling is established whether a little or a lot of milk is suckled, i.e., there is no restriction of small or large quantity.
The second opinion is that the ruling of suckling is established by suckling three times, not by two times, as is clear from the hadith «لَاتُحَرِّمُالْمَصَّةُوَالْمَصَّتَانِ».
The third opinion is that only when the child suckles five times does suckling (radā‘ah) and the prohibition (of marriage) become established; this opinion is stronger and more correct.
In this chapter, in the last hadith of Sayyidah A’ishah radi Allahu anha, there is mention of abrogation (naskh), which in the Noble Qur’an is of three types.
The first is that both the ruling and the recitation are abrogated, such as the verse regarding ten times suckling.
The second is that the recitation is abrogated but the ruling remains, such as the verse regarding five times suckling and the verse of stoning (āyat al-rajm) «الشيخ والشيخه إذا زنيا فارجموهما.».
And the third is that the ruling is abrogated but the recitation remains, and there are many such verses in the Noble Qur’an, such as the verse of bequest (āyat al-wasiyyah): «﴿وَالَّذِينَيُتَوَفَّوْنَمِنْكُمْوَيَذَرُونَأَزْوَاجًاوَصِيَّةًلِأَزْوَاجِهِمْ .....﴾ [البقره : 240]» and other Qur’anic verses.
