باب قَوْلِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى: {لاَ يَحِلُّ لَكَ النِّسَاءُ مِنْ بَعْدُ}:Chapter: Allah’s Saying: “It Is Not Lawful for You to Marry Other Women After This”
Hadith 2278

أَخْبَرَنَا الْمُعَلَّى، حَدَّثَنَا وُهَيْبٌ، عَنْ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ: "مَا تُوُفِّيَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى أَحَلَّ اللَّهُ لَهُ أَنْ يَتَزَوَّجَ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ مَا شَاءَ".
Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Allah Almighty made it lawful before the death of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he could marry any woman he wished.
Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadiths 2276 to 2278)
First, Allah Ta'ala revealed the command in the Noble Qur'an that it is no longer permissible for you to marry more women: «﴿لَا يَحِلُّ لَكَ النِّسَاءُ .....﴾ [الأحزاب : 52]» nor is it lawful for you to exchange them for other wives.
Sayyidah Aisha radi Allahu anha said: This command was abrogated, and the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was granted permission to marry as many women as he wished.
